Each domain registration company has slightly different processes for transfering domain names from one registrar to another. This tutorial will show you the steps needed to transfer a domain names registration from Register.com to our domain registration service.

When transfering a domain name from one registrar to another you are required to renew the domain for at least one additional year. This is true regardless as to when the domain is set to expire.

Only current domain names can be transfered. Domain names that have already expired or that are about to expire in a couple of days cannot be transfered.

To transfer your domain name from Register.com to us, please follow the steps below:

1.  Call Register.com at (877) 866-0045 and request a domain transfer key. (This should be a code that will contain either numbers, letters or a combination of both.)


2. Go to http://ktd-domains.com
   
3. If you already have an account on this system then log in.
   1. If you have another domain name registered with us it is highly likely you already have an account on this system.
   2. The log in information for this system may not be the same as the log in information for your hosting account or your web site admin area.
   3. If you think you do have an account on this system, but do not know the log in please submit a ticket to our support team requestiong your log in information for ktd-domains.com. Be sure to include your name and domain name.
   4. If you do already have an account on this system, once you log in you will need to make sure that your credit card information is complete and correct. You will need this to transfer your domain.
      
      1. To check or complete this information click on my account on the left menu.
      2. Then click on my info.
      3. Scroll down the page and make any neccessary corrections/additions.
      4. Click Save changes at the bottom of the screen.
         
4. If you do not have an account already, click New Account and register for one.
   1. Accounts on this system are free.
      
5. After you have logged in click the word domain on the left menu.
   
6. Then click the word transfer (it is the 8th one down on the list)
   
7. Leave the options set to Automatic. Click the next button at the bottom of the page.
   
8. In the field on this page enter the domain name you are transfering, then a comma, then the exact transfer key you received from Register.com.
   1. The Registrar Lock option locks the domain name so that it cannot be transfered to another registrar without your knowledge. We recommend that you check this option.
   2. The Auto-renew option will automatically renew your domain name each year using the credit card you entered when you signed up for your account.
   3. The Apply WhoIs Info will move the contact information currently listed on the domain name over to this new account. If you are not sure if that information is correct or not, it is best to uncheck this option. this will make it so that the information you entered to create this account will be the new contact information for this domain name.
      
9. Once you have completed this page, click the next button at the bottom of the screen.
   
10. The next page shows you that you are renewing this domain name for one year.
    
11. Click the submit button.
    
12. Continue to follow the directions until you have completed the process.

You will receive a series of emails over the next few days. Be sure to read everyone of them and CAREFULLY follow the directions they contain. If you do not then your domain name will not transfer correctly.

It can take up to 2 weeks for a domain to completely transfer. Once it does you should recieve an email telling you that the transfer is complete. Once you get that email you will want to go to you website and make sure all if functioning correctly. Nothing you are doing should effect it, but it is always a good idea to check. 

Now anytime you need to update the contact information for this domain name, update the payment information to renew this domain name, or register a new domain name you can do so by loggin into this account.
